Bedtime Stories

In this exhibit, we use a large language model and a text-to-image service to generate a bedtime story for children that may reinforce gender stereotypes.

In this exhibit, a participant will explore how creating custom bedtime stories young children may subtly impact how a child imagines what is possible. Participants experience what happens when an LLM is prompted with “Write a bedtime story about a child that grows up to be an {occupation}."

By examining all of the thumbnails for a given occupation, you can see which the gender distribution of characters created by the model. You can also click a thumbnail to read the story that was created.
